Info below taken from the official flyer:Introducing our second International Social Work Conference...
Following on the success of our first-ever International Social Work Conference in 2008, ISS-USA has prepared another “can’t miss” conference. The two-day event, co-sponsored by ISS-USA, The Arthur C. Helton Institute for the Study of International Social Service, and The University of Maryland School of Social Work, is entitled Practical Considerations: The Nexus of Social Work and Law in International Child Welfare.
What you’ll learn...
The 2009 Conference will bring together legal and social service professionals who work with children and families separated by international borders to share the latest information and their professional experiences in 12 important hours of presentations and panel discussions.
DAY ONE will focus on international treaties related to child welfare and the responsibility lawyers, advocates and social workers have to work within the guidelines set forth in those conventions. The second session will use the Special Immigrant Juvenile Status process as a way in which to illustrate the intersection of law and social work in immigration proceedings.
DAY TWO will include one panel session on the history, structure and function of Best Interest Determinations as they are used by agencies such as UNHCR. The second session will be a working session on how to address the gaps in existing BID practice and how these practices can be adopted to be used domestically within the U.S.
