Forum Rules
« on: November 22, 2008, 05:56:12 PM »

There are some very basic rules on SWIP that are to be followed.

1) Discuss fair.
Be polite, do respect other members and their opinions. Do not offend others.
Think well about what you are posting, use the Preview button to check a second time. We are still in testing - may be, we remove the possibility to edit even own posts, so discussions won't get weired.
Remember that many members won't be as much in the subject as you are, so give some background/details that people will better understand, what it is about and what your request/information is.

2) Don't change your posts.
Editing own posts is only enabled for the fix of spell errors and alike. Do not change the sense or meaning what you wrote first. This is a platform for discussion. Sure, it may happen, that you think after some answers to your original post that your first post was not thought through very well. But we all learn in such case - so will you. Also, people are not stupid and will realize that you changed something. Your reputation will get messed up most probably.

3) Stick to the topic.
Of course, discussions are nothing about linear development, but keep in mind where the topic started. If you feel that your commit will end up off topic, feel free to post a short link to a new topic you create. That will help both discussions: the original and yours. However, board moderators will probably split topics if you don't do on your own.

4) Watch the copyright.
Do not post any stuff that you don't got the copyright of. SWIP will not be liable, but you.

There are various possibilities to punish users who don't follow the rules, as for instance
setting the user's permissions to guest status (you will be able to log in, but have no writing access etc.)
banning the user's account (temporary or permanent)
banning the user's ip (temporary or permanent)
