Social Policy and Social Work Subject Centre

SWAP is the UK subject centre for social policy and social work, one of the Higher Education Academy's 24 discipline based centres. SWAP aims to enhance the student learning experience by promoting high quality learning, teaching and assessment.

The Academy is an independent organisation funded by grants from the four UK funding bodies for HE; subscriptions from higher education institutions; and contract income for specific initiatives.

In addition SWAP is advised and guided in its work through its steering group.

SWAP's strategic aims are to:
Promote effective practice of learning and teaching nationally and internationally
Influence national and international policy and practice developments
Encourage, support and undertake pedagogic research
Support academic workforce development
Work in partnership with cognate subject centres and stakeholders to develop a shared agenda
To be a responsive, effective and accountable organisation

To achieve these aims SWAP:
Engages with higher education and subject based policy and regulation across the four UK countries
Organises events, workshops and conferences
Provides funding and resources for pedagogic research and development projects
Offers discussion, brokerage, networking and consultancy services to its subject communities
Disseminates best practice through its publications
Works with related organisations
